Rail fares freeze

For the first time in 30 years, regulated rail fares are frozen and that includes yours.

Most tickets on London Northwestern Railway are staying the same price until March 2027. Here's what you need to know.

Fares included in the fares freeze

The fares freeze currently applies to the following ticket types on our network

Are there any exceptions?

The fares freeze only applies to regulated fares. It does not apply to fares set by ScotRail, Transport for Wales, Caledonian Sleeper, Merseyrail, TfL, Hull Trains, Lumo, Grand Central or Heathrow Express.

Changes to fares following the fares reform (including the rollout of Pay As You Go (PAYG)) may result in some changes to some ticket types, products or time restrictions. This is separate from the fares freeze.

Frequently asked questions

The Fares freeze means that regulated train tickets (the ones where pricing is set by government and not train companies) have been frozen across England until March 2027. These include Season tickets, Anytime and Off-Peak tickets. It doesn't automatically cover journeys that are entirely in Scotland or Wales. Tickets can be purchased online, in ticket offices, or via accessible options such as dedicated telephone booking lines. The government announcement can be found here.

Yes absolutely, all your existing Railcards, discounts, and Concessions carry on as normal. Find out more of the ways you can save money on your train ticket here.

Child tickets are regulated so are also part of the freeze. Children under the age of 5 still also travel for free on all journeys across our network.

Off-peak ticket prices are frozen, and are a great way to save on your train travel.

If your ticket isn't frozen, you can still save on your train travel by booking an Advance ticket or using a railcard.

Changes to fares resulting from the government's programme to simplify fares (e.g. the introduction of Pay As You Go (PAYG)) may result in ticket types, products and/or time restrictions being altered.

No. If your journey is covered, your fare stays the same automatically. Just travel as normal.
